생물다양성, 계통학 및 진화생물학 (Biodiversity, Systematics, and Evolution)
에코과학부에서는 원생생물, 해양무척추동물에서부터 어류, 남방돌고래, 인플루엔자 바이러스에 이르기까지 다양한 생명체의 종 다양성, 계통 분류, 진화 과정을 이해하고자 관련된 연구를 수행하고 있습니다. 저희 교수진은 해수와 담수에서의 야외채집활동, 무척추동물 시료의 채집과 보관, 고해상 및 형광현미경 이미징, 비교유전체학, 집단유전학, 생물지리학, 컴퓨터를 이용한 진화 과정의 모델링 등의 방면에 축적된 경험과 전문적인 지식을 가지고 있습니다.
Members in this area study the diversity (including novel species discovery) and evolutionary process of protists, marine invertebrates, fish, dolphins, and human pathogens including influenza virus. Faculty in this section specializes in the fieldwork at marine and freshwater ecosystems, invertebrate specimen collection & curation, high-resolution and fluorescence imaging, comparative evolutionary genomics, population genetics, biogeography, and computational modeling of evolution.

생태학: 동물행동학, 보전생물학 (Ecology: Animal Behavior and Conservation Biology)
에코과학부에서는 동물들이 세상을 살아가는 방법을 이해하고자 현장에서 다양한 동물의 행동을 관찰하고 연구합니다. 현재 진행 중인 프로젝트로 1) 자바 긴팔원숭이의 행동 생태연구, 2) 황소개구리와 외래거북의 개체군 감소 기술 개발, 3) 제주도 남방큰돌고래의 사회구조 및 보전, 4) DMZ 지역 음향생태학, 5) 미꾸릿과의 민물고기의 생태학적 변화, 그리고 6) 기후변화에 따른 생물계절연구 및 멸종위기종 보전 연구 등이 있습니다. 특히 지구사랑탐사대라는 시민과학 프로그램을 통해 사회의 다양한 사람들이 일부 연구에 참여하고 있습니다.
Faculty members in this area study the behavior and developmental ecology of animals and conservation biology. Current ongoing research projects are as follows: 1) behavioral ecology of Javan gibbon, 2) management of invasive turtles and bullfrogs, 3) social structure and conservation of Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphin, 4) acoustic ecology in the DMZ area, 5) developmental ecology of freshwater fishes, and 6) phenology to climate change and conservation of endangered species. Some research projects are conducted via citizen science approach.
미생물 생리학 및 공생생물학 (Microbial Physiology and Symbioses)
에코과학부에서는 고세균, 세균 및 원생생물의 생리학과 공생관계를 연구하고 있습니다. 현재 진행 중인 연구 주제로 1) 세균의 중심대사경로 관련 수송단백질의 동정과 기능 규명, 2) 메타노젠의 영양공생적응, 3) 미세조류와 내인성 바이러스요소의 상호관계가 있습니다.
Faculty members in this section study the physiology and symbioses of microorganisms, including archaea, bacteria, and protists. Specific topics of investigation include 1) the molecular characterization of bacterial membrane transporters that transport important metabolites, 2) microbial syntrophy involving methanogens, 3) algal interactions with endogenous viral elements.
